Three of Wands

Wands · 3

A figure stands with their back to us on a cliff, three staves planted nearby, watching ships move on a wide bay. The robe is simple and the posture is already committed, as if part of the sender had gone out with the cargo; the water is busy. The person is still.

Upright, or the open face

Three of Wands is the stretch of work that has left your hands and not yet come back as a result. You have launched a proposal, a shipment, a collaboration, and your task is to watch with a spine rather than to rewind the sending. Expansion is underway even when the tracking page is dull. Keep the harbor ready for news, and give yourself a different task than haunting the cliff.

Reversed, or the pressured face

When the card drags, the ships are late and you either despair on schedule or launch three more things before the first has a chance to dock; frustration and scattered follow-ups jam the harbor. Waiting is not failure unless you abandon the post or bury it in new noise. A delay is information about time, not a character reference.

Questions

  • What have I already sent that deserves a clean wait?
  • Where am I refreshing the same page instead of tending the next real task?
  • Who is on the other shore, and have I told them what I need in plain words?

A grounded example

You mail a box of zines to a shop in another city, and the tracking sits on a single bland status for two days. You almost write a public joke about being ignored by the postal gods. Instead you prep the next short run and send the shop a plain note with the ship date and nothing mournful attached; the box arrives on Thursday. The practice was not to haunt it.
