A cord to yourself
Not a love-binding and not a self-punishment. A cord that means: I will come back for me.
Cord workings in popular craft are often aimed at tying two lovers together. That use is refused here. This cord has one end, and it is both ends: you now, and you a month from now.
Timing. A calm day.
Materials
- A soft cord or ribbon.
- A calendar date one month away.
- A small envelope.
- A sentence of advice you needed last year.
- No hair, no blood, no photograph of anyone else.
Steps
- 1Write the advice in one sentence. Example: “Leave the party when you are tired.”
- 2Fold it small.
- 3Wrap the ribbon around it once, loosely, a bow you can pull with one hand.
- 4Speak the words.
- 5Put it in the envelope labeled with the date.
- 6On that date, open it, read it, and untie the bow.
- 7Either follow the advice once or rewrite a kinder sentence and let the old one go.
I leave a light on for the person I am becoming. I do not trap them in what I fear today. I will show up to read this.
Close. After reading, the ribbon becomes a bookmark or it goes in the trash. It does not stay a magical object out of inertia.
The practical action, which is not optional if you want the rite to be honest. Put the date in the calendar now, before you end the sitting.
