Wands
Five of Wands
Wands · 5
Five figures clash with wooden staves in a messy scramble, blows landing more like a noisy practice than a war with funerals. No one is clearly winning, and the sky does not bother to comment. Everyone wants the center of a very small field.

Upright, or the open face
Five of Wands is constructive friction: competing ideas, warming egos, a team that has not found the beat. Conflict can sharpen the work if you stay curious about what each staff is protecting. You do not have to love the noise to use it, and you do not have to pretend every clash is harmless. Sort playful struggle from harm; volume is not a credential.
Reversed, or the pressured face
Pressured, the skirmish turns mean, or it goes underground as sabotage, sarcasm, and jokes that leave a bruise. You may avoid a necessary clash until it becomes contempt, or stir chaos because calm makes you feel invisible. Too much combat and a delayed honest fight waste the same afternoon; nobody is required to live in a brawl in order to be passionate.
Questions
- What is this conflict about, under the noise and the bits?
- Am I playing, competing, or trying to injure?
- What rule would make the struggle useful instead of humiliating?
A grounded example
At band practice the drummer counts in while the guitarist is still talking, and suddenly three people are explaining, which is a kind of percussion. You stop the song, name the tempo, and give each person thirty seconds that you actually time. The next take is not pretty; it is together. The argument was about being heard, and now it has a container instead of a winner.
