The shelf behind the shelf
Sources
Where historical and botanical claims are expected to lean. This is a map, not a bibliography of everything ever cited.
Subject lists for herbs and crystals were audited in October 2026 against the public cabinets at Flint & Flicker: 62 herbs and 42 crystals. Explanations, workings, and cautions on this site are original. Flint & Flicker is a different project. It is not a parent church and not a co-author.
Communities read for context, not copied
- Flint & Flicker — public educational cabinets and paths. Inventory scope only. Prose and images are theirs.
- The Minoan Brotherhood — a modern gay men’s initiatory tradition. We do not describe its rites.
- Temple of Antinous — a contemporary Antinoan religion. Our Antinous page is a historical and devotional essay, not their membership material.
- Zuni Mountain Sanctuary — a queer pagan land project. Mentioned as a living example of land-based community, not as an affiliation.
Reference works we consider fair to send a reader toward
- Theoi Project for Greek myth texts and citations.
- Encyclopaedia Britannica for orientation on festivals, figures, and terms.
- Perseus Digital Library for Greek and Latin sources.
- Livius.org for Roman historical context.
- Electronic Text Corpus of Sumerian Literature for Inanna material in translation.
- Project Gutenberg for public-domain Culpeper, the Pictorial Key to the Tarot, Ovid, and the Eddas in older translations. Old translations have old assumptions. Read them as documents.
- Plants of the World Online (Kew) and Missouri Botanical Garden for plant names.
- Mrs Grieve’s Modern Herbal as a historical herbal, not as current medical advice.
- Mindat and USGS for mineral identity.
- Poison Control and NCCIH when a plant page warns you off a home remedy.
- NASA eclipse pages for the astronomy of eclipses, not for omens.
What a source link is not
A link is not an endorsement of every sentence on that site, and it is not proof that the linked author agrees with a Wilde Altar rite. Primary texts disagree with each other. That is normal. If a page on this site states a fact and offers no trail at all, hold the fact lightly until you can check it.
