Record

Ceremonial practice and the record

Ceremony is a script you can repeat. The magical record is how you find out it did not do what you bragged.

Ceremonial magic, in the Western sense, usually means scripted ritual with a strong interest in names, tools, and correspondence, flowering in medieval and early-modern grimoires and again in nineteenth and twentieth-century orders. Wicca inherited some of that taste and simplified it. You can borrow the habit of structure without joining an order that does not know you exist.

A record worth keeping

After a rite, write date, purpose, what you did, what you felt, and what ordinary action you promised. A month later, write whether the action happened. Skip the baroque claims about astral weather. The record is a mirror, not a press release. The private journal on this site can hold it, or a paper notebook. If the notebook would endanger you, keep the record in your head and still do the follow-up action.

A minimal ceremonial shape

  1. 1Open: hands washed, purpose spoken.
  2. 2Middle: one action, not fifteen.
  3. 3Close: thanks, flame out, note written.
  4. 4Later: a line about what actually occurred in your life.
