The public office
Tenth House
The tenth house symbolizes public work, reputation, and responsibility visible to strangers, not a fated job title.

Themes
The tenth house is the public office of a life: craft seen by strangers, reputation, rank, the work a community thinks you do, the responsibility you cannot perform only in private. Traditional texts speak of praxis, honors, and sometimes a parent, often in debate with the fourth. The useful modern question is what you are willing to stand for where it can be quoted back to you.
A calculated point called the midheaven is often associated with this topic. Which house it falls in depends on the house method in use, a comparison saved for the first house and for chart foundations so it is not repeated as folklore. House systems differ, but reputation does not. People will talk about your public acts whether or not a calculated angle falls in this house.
What this house is not
It is not a career assignment, a promise of status, or a verdict that unpaid lives are invisible to meaning. Caregivers, unemployed people, and artists between grants still have public effects and private worth. The tenth house is not morally above the sixth. Visibility is not virtue, and a title is not a soul.
It is not a brand you must defend at the cost of the truth. Reputation is a commons other people hold, not a possession you fully control. You can influence it by conduct. You cannot micromanage it by panic, and a chart will not tell you the promotion date.
Reflective use
Use the tenth house to write a job description for the role you are actually playing in public, then edit it until it is accurate and ethical. Include the duties you have been enjoying without owning, and the credit you have been taking that belongs to a team. Decide what you want strangers to be right about. Then do one piece of work that would make that description fair.
If status is the sore point, ask who pays for your elevation. Ambition can be clean. It is clean when the people under the work are not props.

The description a stranger could use
- 1Write the work you are known for, in the words a fair stranger would use.
- 2Write the work you actually do, including what is unpaid or shared.
- 3Correct one public claim this month: a biography line, a task you will own, or credit you will hand back.
- 4Do the piece of work that makes the corrected claim true.
Questions
- What do I want to be accurately known for, and what am I only performing?
- Whose labor is inside my reputation?
- If the title vanished, which duty would I still respect?
